Save The Sand Dunes

Sunrise Support volunteers are proud to be part of the Save the Sand Dunes initiative, helping to protect one of St Annes’ most unique and valuable natural landscapes. The sand dunes aren’t just beautiful; they’re a vital sea defence, absorbing the power of storm surges and shielding the community from coastal erosion. They’re also home to over 300 species of plants, as well as countless insects, birds and animals, making them an incredibly rich habitat. Our volunteers contribute to this important conservation work by supporting the Fylde Sand Dunes Project, run in partnership with Lancashire Wildlife Trust, Fylde Council and Blackpool Council. From sand-trapping techniques that strengthen the dunes, to public engagement that helps visitors understand their importance, every effort goes towards ensuring the dunes remain a thriving, resilient space for future generations to enjoy.
